Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaking. Feminist Frequency provides videos, comments and an analysis of how popular culture depicts women. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. She is the creator and executive director of Feminist Frequency A scholarly, non-profit website that explores representations of women in pop culture narratives. She's committed to removing stereotypes about women and how they are portrayed in popular media. In addition she aims to create awareness of online harassment directed at women, and other those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian has a degree in the fields of social thought and political science from York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public presenter. Sarkeesian delivered speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. While a student at university she became fascinated by the issue of gender equality and the rights of women from a young age. The determined lady had planned to create a web series examining gender-based representations in video games. However, she found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. It was not enough to halt her. It actually made her more committed as a feminist and media critique. Numerous awards have been awarded to her as a way of acknowledging her contributions to the field she have made. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit which studies the portrayals of women in popular culture and the narratives that surround them.
